My Future Obsession

I'm not sure when I'll be jumping back into MMOs - definitely after I'm done writing my trilogy, but no exact date - but when I do, I hope it's after this has been released:

Seriously, I think this will be the first MMO to really give WoW a run for its money. They're not just a variation on a theme, they're going to raise the bar and revolutionize how you play MMOs. But don't take my word for it, check it out yourself... and then agonize with me over why it's not out yet!

Fair warning, tho. The future of STO may be directly proportionate to the success of Champions Online. But hey, having bounty hunter Dion trying to hunt down my smuggler could be great fun.

That's the one thing as a Jedi I can't see me RPing very well. She may end up as a healer, or may just be on the fringe doing not-so-Jedi things and hoping to get away with it!

I've been thinking about this a lot and I cannot wait to immerse myself in this. Damn you Cynlan for doing this to me! Well, another friend of mine spoke of it and we've already decided he'll be a Sith to my Jedi - mortal enemies with a long standing love-hate relationship :P

OMG, nowai. With the way companion characters are going to work in the game, I'm going to romance the hottest companion NPC I can get. Besides, Jace has seen how relationships with Jedi go firsthand. He'll skip on that, thanks.

Also, since the faction divide between Republic and Empire is political, not moral, you can have a Jedi that is neither Light side or Dark, but rather walks the middle line. Grey Jedi, as the developers call them. Of course, this also means you'll have Dark Jedi working for the Galactic Republic, and Light Sith working within the Sith Empire. This game is going to be crazy awesome!

And Beau, I think you meant to say TOR (The Old Republic) ERP Request Registry, not STO. I think Shias is the only one here who'd really be jonesing for Star Trek Online ERP. ;D (Bring on the Orion slave girls?)

To clarify, one of Jace's old crewmates was a Jedi by the name of Lyder, who had a very passionate relationship with a Twi'lek until things went horribly wrong and he started veering into Dark Side territory. The relationship ended badly. Very badly. And Jace got a front-row seat for the whole thing.

So yeah, he's not looking to strike up a romance with a Jedi, because he's seen what's down that road.

STO seems neat; I'm hoping it's RPable. Annnndd I'm hoping I can somehow manage to play a slimy Cardassian politician (or ex-politician, at least). Basically, in the ST universe, I love the Cardassians for the same reasons I love blood elves--they're politically corrupt, horribly flawed, generally quite arrogant, and can make for some excellent villains--but just the opposite as well! I've applied for the beta.

But I do usually go where my friends go... so maybe I WILL end up with bounty hunter Dion chasing down your smuggler.

Have you seen the STO character creation video? Pretty cool options they've got available. I'm hoping SWTOR will be able to compete in that department, because WoW's miniscule selection for character creation has always left me wanting more.

A bounty hunter and a Sith warrior? Man, the playing field is already arrayed against my little smuggler! Beau, back me up here!

...ahem. And yeah, the STO character creation looks pretty neat; they -do- have the Cardassian facial ridge things in there. :3 I've always been disappointed with WoW's lack of options, too. On that note, did anyone else try Aion...? The character creation there was fuckin' -fun-.
